Beginning to Blog

Hello . . . My son, Ross, has just set me up to begin blogging so that I can keep in contact with you as we cruise the tropics and build our home on Salt Spring Island. I am writing to you from our cottage on Salt Spring Island, looking out at the Tricomali Channel and the next island, Galiano. It is a bright, clear, cold day, a welcome change from the storms that have been battering us recently. I am so glad I love rain! I hope you will join me as I travel from a cool and lush British Columbia to the jungle coves of Mexico.

Howard and our beloved Portuguese Water Dog, Britta, left Salt Spring in late October to get our sailboat, ANU, out of dry dock in San Carlos and down the Mexican coast to the warm waters south of Bandaras Bay. They are there now while I care for my Mom, Florence, soon to turn 96-years old. In a few days I will begin my journey to them. If all goes as planned, after a car ride, 2 ferries, 5 buses, and 2 airplanes and 24 hours I will be with them. I will be in Mexico for the month, hopefully returning in early February with lots of new pictures and adventures to share.

I have included pictures taken in Mexico last season and some of our cottage on Salt Spring. See you next month with more photos of sunny Mexico! Cheers. . . Gayle

Hey, Gayle! I met you 44 years ago!! Your mom was my principal at Normandy and we have been good friends ever since even thru Colorado and California, we've stayed in touch! And I've heard your life story via her. In her last year's Xmas note she mentioned your website..bu,t I never got a computer till March and so when I reread her letter before sending this year's Xmas greeting I jotted it down. Now Xmas has come and gone and I didn't hear from her and was worried, but I see you say in your blog that she'll be 96 and I remember her b-day was Jan 2 so I'm going to try to call her. It was great to see picture of your cottage and the area but I was wishing there was a shot of Florence as well!!

I remember visiting your new house in Denver a million years ago when the kids were little....Please let me know anytime if your mom has an e-mail or if I can send a card or anything...I see lots of old friends from River and Bay and always update them on her life...who can believe..British Columbia!!! I've told them all to look up your pictures on website ...you look as beautiful as ever and Britta is to die for!! Remember you had a bunny and a duck and the black and white little bulldog whom we would all visit when we came to play bridge. Arlene >^.^
